PURPOSE: To provide an instrument which measures photochemical hole burning and another instrument which measures polarized-light hole burning caused by the photochemical hole burning. ;CONSTITUTION: A coherent light beam 6 emitted from a light source 11 is split into two beams through a beam splitter 171 and one beam is transformed into a reference light beam 7 by shifting the frequency of the beam by means of a light frequency shifter 16. The other light beam is transformed into circularly polarized light through a circularly-polarized-light transformer 13 after the light beam is once transformed into a resonant optical pulse train by means of an optical switch 12 and projected upon a DUT 4. The FID signal 9 of photon echoes generated from the DUT 4 and the reference light beam are synthesized through another beam splitter 172 and the FID signal 9 is heterodyne-detected, A/D-converted 24, Fourier-transformed by means of an arithmetic section 25, and displayed 26.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
