PURPOSE: To effectively utilize a radiation, especially γ rays, from radioactive wastes by guiding to an irradiation chamber with a collimator radiation emitted from a radiation take-out hole in a shielding wall of a radioactive waste storage. ;CONSTITUTION: A storage 1 houses several hundred vitrified solids 14 of radioactive wastes, each of which continues to emit high-level radiation stably over a few decades. Consequently, the inside of the storage 1 is filled with the radiation traveling in all directions, and the radiation with a wide angle increasing in radial directions is emitted from a radiation take-out hole 2. While the radiation is passing through a collimator 3, components other than those in the axial direction 16 of the collimator 3 attenuate. At an exit of the collimator 3, meanwhile, the radiation is emitted in the axial direction 16 toward an irradiation chamber. An instrument 6 measures the energy quantity of the radiation directed to an object 7. As it rotates on a rotary table 9, the whole body of it is thoroughly exposed to the radiation.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1996,JPO
