PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inhibitor against rise in blood sugar, an aldose reductase inhibitory action agent, a lipid metabolism improver and a hepatopathy inhibitory action agent, comprising an extract of Ocimum Basilicum with an organic solvent or water as an active ingredient, having almost no fear of side effect. ;SOLUTION: The inhibitor against rise in blood sugar as an aldose reductase inhibitor, lipid metabolism improving action agent, and a hepatopathy inhibitory action agent comprise an extract of Ocimum Basilicum with an organic solvent or water as an active ingredient.
