A delivery system for a recipient comprising an organism containing a vaccine for the recipient and wherein the vaccine is prepared outside of the recipient and is capable of being transmitted by and from the organism to the recipient is described. A preferred embodiment comprises a transgenic phytophagous or haematophagous insect whose salivary glands comprise a gene capable of expressing a desired antigen.
