THE USE OF YARROWIA LIPOLYTICA FOR BIOLOGICAL DEGRADATION OF OILS AND FATS IN THE WASTE WATER OR SEWAGE TREATMENT PROCESS AND THE WAY OF USE THEREOF

The use of the yeast Yarrowia lipolytica, which is distinguished by high lipolytic activity, is suitable for the industrial biodegradation of oils, fats and oil emulsions. The model strain Yarrowia lipolytica W1 is particularly suitable for this process. The biodegradation process for oils, fats and oil emulsions in sewage using this yeast is characterised in that the oils, fats and oil emulsions with sewage are taken to a special container in such a way that they are found there in a concentration of 0.1 % and 3 % (w/v) in an aqueous medium. The yeast Yarrowia lipolytica is added while maintaining a temperature of 5 to 35 DEG C, a pH of 0.8 and 7.0 and an NH4+ concentration of at least 60 mg/l while air is also supplied.
