UPSETTING TOOL OF A PAIR OF UPSETTING TOOLS FOR THE DEFORMATION OF CONTINUOUSLY CAST SLABS IN A SLAB UPSETTING PRESS

An upsetting tool of a pair of upsetting tools for thedeformation of continuously cast slabs in a slab upsetting press iscomposed of two connecting rods which are driven through twoeccentric shafts and which support the upsetting tool and guide theupsetting tool in parallel direction. Hinged to the connectingrods is a piston/cylinder unit for producing a movement of theupsetting tool synchronously with the slab movement on a rollertable. The upsetting tool has upsetting surfaces for acting on oneof the two longitudinal sides of the slab. The upsetting surfacesextend parallel or inclined relative to the direction of movementof the slab. The upsetting surfaces are located next to oneanother so as to form edges extending transversely of the directionof movement of the slab, wherein upsetting surfaces inclined awayfrom the longitudinal side surfaces of the slab are arrangedfollowing or possibly in front of an upsetting surface extendingparallel to the travel direction of the slab. Each upsetting toolhas a first inclined upsetting surface and one or more additionalupsetting surfaces with angles of inclination which are smallerthan the angle of inclination of the first upsetting surface.
