An axial length control agent comprising a TGF-.beta. regulatingsubstance as an active ingredient. More particularly, an axialelongation inhibitor comprising a TGF-.beta. activator, specifically aplasminogen activator, as an active ingredient, which is an agent forthe prophylaxis and treatment of myopia. An axial elongation agentcomprising a TGF-.beta. activation inhibitor, particularly a plasminogenactivator inhibitor, as an active ingredient, which is an agent for theprophylaxis and treatment of myopia. In addition, a commercialpackage comprising any one of the above-mentioned axial lengthinhibitors and a written indicating the use thereof. The axial lengthcontrol agent of the present invention controls elongation of the axiallength, and is extremely useful for the prophylaxis and treatment ofmyopia or hyperopia. It is also useful for preparing experimental modelanimals having eyes with complete axial myopia or hyperopia exclusiveof refractive myopia or hyperpia.
