The invention relates to a high-speed suspension railway system, in particular an overhead railway. Although the bearing structure, as in a conventional aerial ropeway, comprises stays and a carrying rope (5) mounted thereon, the traction carriages (20) bearing the cars (14) are self-propelling and do not travel on the carrying rope but on a component rail (1). Said component rail (1) is suspended on the carrying rope (1) by shrouds (4) and axially fixed by tension levers (2), according to the invention, the upper section thereof being connected by tension shrouds (13) to an upper tensioning rope (9) and the lower section thereof by tension shrouds (13) across a bearing spar (3) to a lower tensioning rope. Said carrying structure which absorbs torsional forces during cornering by way of bracing constitutes the rigging according to the invention. The component rail (1) is rigid and, in a preferred embodiment, is designed in such a manner that one section of the rail of approximately 10 m can carry at least a load of 10 tonnes (the weight of a full car). Traction carriages (20) travel on the component rail (1) which, when viewed from the direction of travel, is constantly held vertically, and they engage around either the component rail (1) provided that it is constructed as an external rail, or, when constructed as a hollow or internal rail, they run in the internal rail. Said traction carriages (20) are held on or in the component rail (1) by rolling parts or wheels in such a manner that, when viewed from the direction of travel, they also constantly maintain their vertical position and transfer torque which occurs during cornering to the rigging via the components of the rail (1) and the parts or wheels rolling thereon, and also via the tension lever (2).
