The method involves controlling access cycles of system units (SE1-SE4) connected to the bus with the aid of an allocation device (ZTE) taking into account currently established priorities. A different priority is associated with each system unit when the microcomputer system (MPS) is initialised. During each access cycle the priorities of each system unit, whose associated priority is lower than that of the current access cycle, is raised. The priorities of system units with priorities greater than the current access cycle priority are not altered. The priority associated with the system unit performing the current access cycle is reset to a defined value. The requesting system unit with the highest priority is allocated the current access cycle.
