The self locking lifting device is formed with two arms (1,2), which are linked together by a central axis of rotation (3), in the manner of scissors. Each arm carries an operating branch (4,5) and a lifting branch (6,7). Each of the operating arms has, at its free end, a shackle (8,9), which is designed to be suspended from the hook of a lifting device. Each of the lifting arms, has, at its internal end, a lifting plate (12,13), which is pressed against the outer face of the object (14) to be lifted. The construction of both arms is of identical structure, with a preformed central core (28) covered by a wrapping layer (29) of composite material.
