The harvester has a conditioning unit (11) comprising three or more rotary driven rollers (8,9,10) which, seen in the through-flow direction of the stream of chopped material, form at least two successive rolling gaps (18,19). The imaginary connections of the rotary axes of the conditioning rollers describe a triangle. To form the two gaps, one roller may be mounted on one side of the stream of material and, centrally, between the two rollers mounted on the other side of the material stream, each relative to the through flow direction. The centre vertical to the imaginary connection of the two rollers forming the rear gap is directed towards the lower opening of the adjoining discharge shaft (15).
