The process occurring between a target and a fine projectile beam in the atomic and/or molecular dimension is visualised by cooling the target and electro-optically imaging the reaction between the projectile beam and the target via a spectrometer (2). The reaction volume is focussed on to a detector system for detection of the strike time and strike point of each charged reaction product, to allow the visualisation of the detected reaction product pulses.
