Pulsed light source e.g. gas-discharge lamp for generating light of given wavelength in UV and visible light spectral range

The pulsed light source has a lamp head (1) with a gas container (2) resistant to the reaction gas and the light radiation. A gas discharge can be generated in the container (2). The device also has at least a first electrode (4), e.g. cathode electrode or mains electrode, shaped to provide a wide discharge area. The electrode is made of chemically and electrically resistant material and is electrically connected to the gas container (2). The device also has at least a second electrode e.g. an anode electrode (8) shaped to provide a wide discharge area and which is electrically connected to a positive potential of a high voltage source. An electrode spacer e.g. a lamp chamber (5) is provided such that a discharge area is formed between the electrodes (4,8) when the lamp is operable. An automatic ignition device generates a directed and homogenous gas discharge between the electrodes (4,8). A high voltage circuit generates the necessary high voltage pulse with a rapid rate of increase. The circuit has a high voltage switch (31), storage capacitor (27) and recharge capacitor (28) and at least one charge coil (30). A gas recycling and regeneration system is provided in the gas container (2). At least one light outlet window which allows light from the lamp through and which is chemically resistant, is provided in the wall of the lamp chamber or the container. A control system monitors and regulates all required operating values of the lamp and gas collection. A gas or gas mixture filling is provided for the respective light emission.
