The window position detector has a source (12) of a magnetic field fitted in the frame (11) of the door. A magnetic field detector (13) is also fitted in the door frame, in the vicinity of the field source. The edge of the glass has a metal channel (15) fitted over it, or carries a metallised coating. When the glass nears its extreme position it passes between the magnetic source and the detector, altering the flux path. The components are set so that the detector moves between two states: one when the edge of the glass is in the vicinity and the other when it is not. The magnetic source is a permanent magnet and the detector a Hall effect transducer.
