Housings for valve seats in cylinder head of IC engine - has landing surface, formed in combustion surface of cylinder head, protected by radial cavities, formed in area of adjacent valve seat housings
The cylinder head (20) is constructed with a combustion face (18), which forms the boundary of the combustion chamber (16) of the engine. The valve seats (28) in the cylinder head, are fixed radially in the cylindrical housings (30), which are fitted flush with the surface (18) of the combustion chamber. The cylindrical housings are separated from each other, in the cylinder head by a small landing (32) of the face of the cylinder head, and which extends between the two zones, forming the internal cylindrical surfaces of the housings. Each of these zones is formed by a radial cavity (36), which acts to limit the contact pressure between the valve seats and the landing area.
