The target comprises a base (10) that may be filled with water and a pillar (11) that extends upwardly from the base. A body (20) of punch absorbing material is formed with a bore (21) for engagement with the pillar. The outer portion of the pillar has at least one slot or notch and the body includes a projection that may be engaged with the slot. The notch allows adjustment of the height of the body relative to the base. The pillar may have a mouth (12) through which it may be filled with water, and a cap is used to seal the mouth.
