摘要

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal-oriented film that is capable of orienting liquid crystals even without the use of a rubbing method and is capable of withstanding a heat treatment in a production stage for a liquid crystal display element. ;SOLUTION: The liquid crystal-oriented film contains a resin having atomic groups which are photoisomerizable and exhibit dichromaticity in the main chain structure of the resin. The orientability of the liquid crystal-oriented film is imparted to the film by directly irradiating the resin film with polarized light. The orientability is stably held and fixed. The liquid crystal-oriented film is used for the liquid crystal display element holding the liquid crystals between a pair of substrates on at least one which electrodes are formed and the liquid crystal oriented films are to be formed. The atomic groups which are photoisomerizable and exhibit the dichromaticity are preferably an azobenzene deriv., stilbene deriv., etc., and the resin is preferably a polyimide resin.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
