PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new yeast, having the excellent ability to produce 2,6-dihydroxy-3-naphthoic acid, useful as a precursor of medicines, agrochemicals, pigment dispersions, heat-sensitive recording materials, metallic corrosion protecting materials, etc., and useful for the production, etc., of the 2, 6-dihydroxy-3-naphthoic acid. ;SOLUTION: This new microorganism Candida lipolytia HNA-110 strain (FERM P-15613) has the ability to produce 2,6-dihydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and is capable of producing the high-purity 2,6-dihydroxy-3-naphthoic acid useful as a precursor of medicines, agrochemicals, pigment dispersions, heat-sensitive recording materials, metallic protecting materials, etc., in high yield from 2- hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid. The new microorganism is obtained by culturing a strain separated from soil in KYOTO Prefecture in a culture medium containing the 2-hydroxy-3-naphthoic acid and collecting a colony having a conversion rate into the 2,6-dihydroxy-3-naphthoic acid as high as ≥90%.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
