PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and efficiently form the shape of a mold by modeling at least a part of a cavity shape model by using the function describing the shape of the mold. ;SOLUTION: For example, when a 1×7 order B spline patch is used when a surface is defined, the surface can be defined by data called the so-called nodal point vector determining 2×8 control point data and weighing function. Herein, the number of control points is 2×8 consisting of a 8 points constituting a curve 10 and 8 points constituting a curve 11 and the nodal point vector determining the degree of the proximity of a curved surface 12 is set to data of a 1×5 size and a 1×10 size. Since the control point data is displayed by a system of coordinates data (x, y, z) within a three-dimensional space, the magnitude of data becomes real number data of the number of control points ×3. Therefore, the number of data necessary for defining a curved surface by CAD is real number data 63. Therefore, data input work is simplified to a large extent.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
