PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a film image reader which reads an image on a long film and has a function by which data for an index display menu displayed on a monitor screen of a host device are generated with an optionally selected and set content and to provide a storage medium to store a control procedure for the film image reader. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a storage means 2 storing data of an index display setting menu displayed on a monitor screen of a host device 19 and with an index display menu data generating means 1 which receives outputs of an image read means 12 and a magnetic information read means 15 according to setting data selected and set on an index display setting menu received from the host device 19 and generates data for the index display menu displayed on the monitor screen of the host device 19.
