PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the simple and accurate guidance of an incoming electronic mail to a user by extracting the information on the user from various information included in the electronic mail and then producing and displaying an incoming mail guidance sentence. ;SOLUTION: When an electronic mail is received by a user's computer (S1), the information on the user is extracted from various information included in the received mail based on a prescribed guidance rule and an incoming mail guidance sentence is produced (S2) and displayed (S3). When the guidance sentence is produced (S2), a guidance rule consisting of a conditional sentence and a guidance sentence pattern is extracted (S21). Then the electronic mail is analyzed based on the conditional sentence and various information included in the mail are extracted (S22). When the processing carried out based on the conditional sentence succeeds (S23), the information acquired via the processing carried out based on the conditional sentence is substituted for the variable of the guidance sentence pattern of the guidance rule for production of an incoming mail guidance sentence (S24).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
