PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an Al composite increased in the content of silicon carbide and having low thermal expansion and high thermal conductivity by mixing Al powder and silicon carbide powder, compacting the resultant powder mixture, charging the resultant green compact into a mold, and molding it by heating up to a temp. not lower than the melting point of Al. ;SOLUTION: A powder mixture of Al or Al alloy powder and silicon carbide powder is compacted. The resultant green compact is put into a heated mold and heated to a temp. not lower than the melting point of Al or Al alloy and then cooled, by which an Al composite is molded. Further, one side or both sides of the powder mixture of Al or Al alloy powder and silicon carbide powder are filled with an Al or Al alloy powder of the same kind as the above Al or Al alloy powder, which is compacted. The resultant green compact is put into a mold and heated at a temp. not lower than the melting point of Al or Al alloy and molded, by which an Al composite having a coating layer of Al or Al alloy can be obtained. It is preferable that the powder mixture has a composition consisting of, by volume, 80-10% Al or Al powder and 20-90% silicon carbide powder.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
