PURPOSE:To facilitate switching of high voltage path by conducting a semiconductor switching element when a voltage detected through a voltage drop detecting circuit is lower than a predetermined value, while furthermore closing a switch inserted between a source side connecting terminal and a load side connecting terminal. CONSTITUTION:When a high voltage different phase path switching device, arranged at a switch SW-1 in a first path, is connected and a switch SW-3 is closed, a current flows through a reactor L because of the phase difference between first and second paths. Upon opening of a switch SW-2 in the second path, power is fed from the first path through the reactor L to a load. Since only the voltage drop across the reactor L is applied onto a thyristor TH, the thyristor requires only a low breakdown strength. The voltage drop is detected through a voltage drop detector 41 and the thyristor is fired through a control circuit 42, while simultaneously a switch SW-4 is thrown in.
