PURPOSE: To obtain a material having an odor of a new tatami(rush)-mat useful for odoring tatami-mats in high yield, capable of being industrialized and giving a product having the same perfume as that of a natural matting by extracting dried rushes with a solvent. ;CONSTITUTION: This method for obtaining a material having an odor of a new tatami-mat is to immerse dried rushes in a solvent, preferably a 5-8C aliphatic hydrocarbon, petroleum ether, a 1-3C aliphatic alcohol, especially hexane (e.g. at a refluxing temperature for about 7 days), extract perfume ingredients, filter the extract, evaporate the solvent to obtain the objective material.
