PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mechanism and a device for imparting rotary motion and linear motion to an azimuth tape recording head. ;SOLUTION: The mechanism contains a gear 30 with teeth loaded with a read/write head 35. Two of the same screwed shafts 21, 23 respectively extending from the same stepper motors 22, 24 are loaded on a base 10 along the same vertical surface as the gear 30 with teeth. The rotary shafts of the screwed shafts are arranged in parallel to each other so that respective screws are meshed and engaged with the gear with teeth on both sides. The rotary motion of the head 35 is attained by rotating the screwed shafts in the directions opposite to each other at the same speed synchronized with each other. The linear motion or rise/drop of the head is attained by rotating one side screwed shaft and the other side screwed shaft in the same direction synchronized with each other.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
