PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new DNA useful for e.g. producing an antigen for diagnosing Rubella virus infection, by binding to a specific virus promoter a 5'terminal side fragment afforded by treating with a restriction enzyme a DNA with a sequence complementary to that of a Rubella virus E1 protein gene. ;SOLUTION: This new DNA is obtained by binding the 5'terminal side fragment afforded by treating restriction enzyme Pvu-I a DNA having a sequence complementary to the gene domain coding the EI protein of Rubella virus to the polyhedral protein structural gene promoter domain of Autographa californica nuclear-polyhedrosis virus (AcNPV) in such a state that the promoter is in activity. This DNA is used for e.g. producing EI protein useful for diagnosing Rubella virus infection and assessing vaccine effect. Specifically, this DNA is obtained by the following process: mRNA is isolated from Rubella virus particles, a cDNA library is prepared by using the mRNA and then put to screening by colony hybridization method.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1998,JPO
