PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform continuous machining in addition to a long lasting grinding-polishing surface as well as to aim at the promotion of low cost in the operation of grinding and polishing and its accurateness. ;SOLUTION: A cylindrical columnar work member 1 is supported by a cylindrical guide 2 and shiftable in the axial direction. A pressing mechanism installed in this guide 2 is provided with pressing force to press an end face of the cylindrical work member 1 to a workpiece 8. A guide holder 5 on a peripheral part of this guide 2 supports the guide 2 free of rotation by a bearing 6. A motion imparting mechanism 4 rotates the guide 2 and the cylindrical work member 1 via a belt 12. During operation, a fluid is sprayed out of a fluid exhaust nozzle 7 installed in the guide holder 5. Since an autogenous action exists in the cylindrical work member 1, even if the end face of this cylindrical work member 1 is temporarily and partially deteriorated (abrasion or the like) by frictional resistance or the like to be generated by operations, machining can be done continuously, whereby grinding-polishing operations for hours at high load are achievable.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1997,JPO
