PURPOSE: To provide a method for preventing a vertical pulverizer from vibration causing an operation failure, even if an abnormal vibration which is of high amplitude and continuous occurs for some reason during operation, and detects any signs of the abnormal vibration to improve the thickness of a raw material layer on a rotary table and avoid any possible trouble due to the vibration. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective pulverizer, driven by a variable speed electric motor, is equipped with a layer thickness gauge which measures the thickness of a raw material layer between a rotary table and a grinding roller. A time change in the thickness of the raw material layer is monitored during operation, and if the thickness of the raw material layer is simply reduced over a previously set time length, the rotary table is allowed to come down in speed in accordance with the reduction of the thickness.
