Main-chain chiral smectic polymer liquid crystal, liquid crystal polymer composition and polymer liquid crystal element

摘要

PURPOSE:To obtain the title liquid crystal which can be easily formed into film and can give a large film excellent in strength with good orientation, by forming a constitution wherein the repeating units have the winding directions of the helical structure of a chiral smectic phase opposite to one another. CONSTITUTION:A high-molecular liquid crystal of principal chain type which consists of at least two kinds of repeating units formed from a mesogen group, a flexible group longer than a 1,4-butylene group, and a bonding group or single bond that bonds these two groups, wherein the optically active group of the flexible group is different, and which has repeating units having the winding directions of the helical structure of a chiral smectic phase opposite to one another. The liquid crystal thus obtained can be easily formed into film and can give a wide film excellent in strength with good orientation.
