PURPOSE:To enhance the sensitivity and preservable property with age of the photosensitive material and to decrease the generation of fogging by executing chemical maturation at the pAg value within a specific range and adding a pAg value increasing agent at the time of the maturation. CONSTITUTION:This photosensitive material contains the silver halide emulsion formed by subjecting the emulsion to the substantial chemical maturation at the pAg value within a 6.0 to 8.8 range and subjecting the emulsion to the process for adding a compd. (A) which forms a hardly soluble salt with silver ions to increase the pAg value before or during the chemical maturation to the emulsion. Thiocyanate (e.g. ammonium thiocyanate), etc., are usable as the pAg value increasing agent and can be added to the emulsion prior to the addition of a chemical sensitizer (e.g. sodium thiosulfate).
