The present invention relates generally to the use of antagonists whichselectively affect the bradykinin 2 receptor (B2) and/or agonists whichselectively affect the B1 receptor, to treat cerebral ischemic injury, whetherdue to stroke or other causes, and in particular to striatal ischemic injuryand cortical ischemic injury. The present invention also relates to using B2antagonists and/or B1 agonists to treat Parkinson's disease and Huntington'sdisease. The B2 antagonist and/or B1 agonist chosen can be used alone ortogether as the therapeutic agent or in combination with other therapeuticagents.
