The invention relates to a device for a magnetic bearing, consisting of at least one stabilisation device (10, 20, 30) and preferably at least one relief device (4, 5, 6, 14) for absorbing static forces. At least one stabilisation device (10, 20, 30) consists of magnets (7, 8, 9) which are arranged in pairs on each side of a magnetic, electrically conductive material (1, 2, 3) situated there between and having, for example, a flat shape (1, 3) or the shape of a hollow cylinder (2), which magnets induce oppositely directed eddy currents in the said material. The thickness of the material (1, 2, 3) corresponds at most to the magnetic penetration (skin) depth, with the result that the said eddy currents cancel one another and therefore do not cause any sort of braking force, as long as the material (1, 2, 3) is centred in the middle between the magnets (7, 8, 9).
