The container has a rectangular base (10) and two side (2) walls and two cross walls (3), which extend vertically from the base edges. The side and cross walls are limited by a rim (4). The edge area of the base has an all-round stack step (7). The base of the container exterior has rows of spaced formations (6,6'). The edge formation (6') forms the stack step. The rows of formations form a waffle pattern. The rim is formed from a hollow chamber-type frame which is arranged on the inside of the side and cross walls. The width of the stack step corresponds at least to that of the container rim. The formation are circular or square-shaped. The inner corners of the rim are rounded.
