Herein disclosed is a peripheral device operation apparatus (7, 10) for enabling a nonstandard peripheral device (2, 3) to communicate with a calculation machine (1). The calculation machine (1) includes a basic input/output system (5) ("BIOS") for communicating with a predetermined standard peripheral device. The peripheral device operation apparatus (7, 10) comprises identification means (8, 11) and conversion means (9, 12). The identification means (8, 11) instructs the BIOS to identify the nonstandard peripheral device (2, 3) as the standard peripheral device. The conversion means (9, 12) is designed to convert data transmitted between the nonstandard peripheral device (2, 3) and the calculation machine (1) to data formats appropriate to the nonstandard peripheral device (2, 3) and the calculation machine (1), respectively. Thus constructed peripheral device operation apparatus (7, 10) enables the nonstandard peripheral device (2, 3) to easily communicate with the calculation machine (1) without particular preparations.
