In immunological tests for the classification of an analyte in aqueous solution, good test linearity and a good signal/noise ratio can be achieved by the stabilization of immunologically reactive polypeptides (antigens) by the addition of a stabilizer comprising one or more proteins of the small thermal shock protein family. The stabilization process is suitable for improving the storage life of aqueous solutions containing peptides and can be used in conventional immunological test systems.
