The present invention discloses a composition for forming a carbon electrode, a carbon electrode formed from the composition, and a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery employing the carbon electrode. The composition includes a carbon material, a conductive agent, a binder and a solvent, which are composed of a carbon powder (A) having an average particle diameter of 5 to 10 m and a carbon powder (B) having an average particle diameter of 15 to 30 m. First, the carbon powder content of fine particles having a large specific surface area can be controlled by mixing carbon powders having different average particle diameters, thereby reducing the self-discharge rate and irreversible capacity loss of the secondary battery, The life span is increased. Secondly, as compared with the case of using a carbon powder having a single particle diameter, the filling property of the carbon powder to the current collector is improved and the conductivity is improved, thereby increasing the capacity density of the battery.
