Carbon based nanostructures which allow the intercalation of Li within the layers, are still considered as one of the most viable candidates as the anode material in lithium-ion batteries. Electrodes consisting of very high energy density fluoride systems such as CFx are typically considered as the cathode material in primary batteries. However, recent innovations in the formation of nanostructured carbon fluoride electrodes are considered as potential reversible systems, e.g. anode electrode in Li-ion batteries . In addition, development of high quality 3D graphene structures with controlled number of graphene layers and pores in free standing graphene network are envisioned to significantly improve the performance of carbonaceous active material for Energy storages.
