If cells are infected and viral proteins are made, only the protective gene product will be expressed.;The DNA construct of the present invention consists of a promoter and a vector operably linked to at least one target response element such that its summary is tandem transcribed.;The DNA constructs can be used for the treatment of viral infections, particularly HIV related diseases, by obtaining cells from HIV infected patients, transforming the cells with the constructs and then administering the transformed cells to the patients.
