Recombinant C140 receptors, their agonists and antagonists, and nucleic acids encoding receptors

Nucleic acid molecules encoding the C140 cell surface receptor were cloned and sequenced. The availability of the C140 receptor allows for the recombinant production of the C140 receptor, which can be produced on the surface of cells containing oocytes. Nucleic acid molecules are useful in assays for the detection of receptor agonists or antagonists, substances that affect C140 receptor activity. In addition, elucidation of the structure of the C140 receptor allows the design of agonist and antagonist compounds useful in such assays. The utility of the C140 receptor also allows the production of antibodies that are specifically immunoreactive with one or more antigenic epitopes of the receptor.
