Controlling and destroying pests of the families Dermestidae and/or Ptinidae and/or Lyctidae and/or Anobiidae and/or Cerambycidae and/or Tineidae and/or Blattellidae and/or Blattidae in or on articles and building components such as artworks, textile fabrics, church interiors, coverings, ceilings which are in an enclosure such as a chamber within a building, museum or church, a film cage or a tent, comprises leading a gaseous formic acid ester at a temperature of 5-37 deg C into the enclosure in a concentration of 5-90 mg/l.
