The present invention relates to novel organically modified aerogels, a method for their production, in which a) a hydrogel is provided; b) the surface of the hydrogel obtained in step (a) is modified, and c) the modified surface of the gel obtained in step (b) is dried, and the use thereof. The present invention also relates to novel organically modified wet gels, a method for the production and the use thereof.
