The tongs comprise a frame that has a support element to which is joined a height-adjustable coupling arm connectable to a hoist or similar appliance. Clamping elements are positioned near the side edges of the support element and sloping towards the support element. The clamping elements are joined by connecting elements to the coupling arm which is pivotally connected to the frame by means of a horizontal hinge axle. The tongs are connected by the hinge axle to a height adjustable strut.
