PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To precisely position a focus of a laser beam to a small width part to be welded. SOLUTION: A laser beam machining head 3 attached to a robot 1 is driven in up/down direction by a motor 6. For teaching, in such a state that works 31 (flange parts 31A, 31B) are pressed by a roller 21 arranged at the position deviated in a welding direction for the machining head 3 and in such a state that a probe 10a of a measurement device 10 mounted to the machining head 3 is abutted on the work 31, the robot 1 is moved along the work 31. Upper/ lower positions of the work 31 corresponding to a robot position is outputted from the measure-ment device 10 and is stored in a controller U. In a state that the measurement device 10 is demounted from the machining head 3, laser welding is conducted. At this time, the motor 6 is controlled so that an up/down position deviation of the work 31 stored is compensated by the controller U corresponding to a robot position, thereby the focus of a laser beam is positioned to just the work 31.
