PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize at low cost a full color panel with high contrast, without changing a phosphor forming process by arranging in vacuum, and forming a phosphor screen which is arranged in vacuum, and is colored and emitting fluorescence through excitation by incident electrons which are accelerated by an electric field. ;SOLUTION: The forming method of a colored phosphor screen preferably uses a colored mixture, or a mixture of coloring powder and a phosphor, or a coloring agent. The coloring powder or the coloring agent is suitably becomes an inorganic compound, after the phosphor screen has been formed. A field emission display 100 has an anode substrate 101 and a cathode substrate 102 facing the anode substrate 101. A space between both substrates is held in a high vacuum state. An anode conductor 103, which is a translucent conductive film such as ITO is formed on the inner surface of the anode substrate 101, and a phosphor layer and an anode 105 which is a display part are formed. A field emission type cathode 106, which is an electron source is formed on the inner surface of the cathode substrate 102, and a cathode conductor 107, a resistance layer 108, an insulating layer 109, a gate 110, and a cone- shaped emitter 111 are also formed on the inner surface on the cathode substrate 102.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
