PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make application even in the case of high demand to print quality and enable its measurement to be done readily by taking images for engraving cells formed on a gravure print and thereby obtaining image data, and calculating the opening area of the engraving cells based upon the image data. ;SOLUTION: At first, a test engraving is conducted on the basis of a reference data for formation of engraving cells on a gravure print (S31). Next, by taking images with respect to test engraving cells, its configurational parameter is measured automatically to obtain an area as measured configurational data (S32). Subsequently, the necessity of correcting engraving conditions is determined by comparing the measured configurational data and reference conflgurational data (S33). As a result of the determination, if a determination for necessary correction is done, the engraving conditions are corrected (S34). The correction is carried out by making a comparison with the value of a reference area and thereby calculating a most suitable adjusting value. On the other hand, as a result of the determination, if a determination for unnecessary correction is done, main engraving is implemented in terms of the engraving conditions so as to form engraving cells on the gravure print (S34).;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
