TITANIA COATED ZRO2 POWDER AND SI3N4-ZRO2 CERAMICS USING SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a starting material for ZrO₂ ceramics by coating the surface of ZrO₂ powder with titania and to enhance the general mechanical performance of Si₃N₄ ceramics such as the strength, toughness and hardness by using the starting material. ;SOLUTION: The surface of ZrO₂ powder is coated with a metal titanium compd. and heated to obtain the objective starting material for ZrO₂ ceramics with a uniform titania coating layer. A ceramic material contg. 5-30 wt.% of the starting material and a starting material for Si₃N₄ ceramics is used so as to obtain the objective Si₃N₄-ZrO₂ ceramics.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
