PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a starting material for ZrO2 ceramics by coating the surface of ZrO2 powder with titania and to enhance the general mechanical performance of Si3N4 ceramics such as the strength, toughness and hardness by using the starting material. ;SOLUTION: The surface of ZrO2 powder is coated with a metal titanium compd. and heated to obtain the objective starting material for ZrO2 ceramics with a uniform titania coating layer.
