PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a picture processing system by which a processing from a picture input to a picture output is efficiently executed in a short time. SOLUTION: A picture processing system 10 consists of a picture input device 12 and a picture output device 14. The picture input device 12 is provided with a picture data input part 16, a picture data scanning part 18 for scanning inputted picture data, a characteristic detecting part 20 for detecting the characteristic of picture data and a data transmitting part 22 for transmitting picture data without waiting for characteristic detection and also transmitting the characteristic after the transmission of picture data to the picture output device 14. The picture output device 14 is provided with a data receiving part 24 for receiving picture data and its characteristic, a picture data holding part 26 for holding the picture data, a picture data processing part 28 for processing picture data based on the characteristic, a picture data output part 30 for outputting processed picture data and a printing part 32 for printing the output picture based on the outputted picture data.
