PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automatically set the threshold of image binarization which has serious effect on a recognition rate to the best value for recognition by setting the binarization threshold by using musical score information and inputting a musical score image in the form of a binarized image. ;SOLUTION: Through the main processing of a CPU 1, an image (including the staff width and interval) of the musical score is inputted to a RAM 3 by a scanner 12. The image is inputted in the form of an image with monochromatic gradations. Here, when the image inputted by the scanner 12 or read as a file is a binary image, automatic binarization can not be performed, so it is recognized as it is or an image with gradations is inputted again for the automatic binarization. Then an automatic binarizing process (threshold value setting process) is performed. Then the binarized image is inputted, and on the basis of the set binarization threshold, the musical score image is inputted as the binarized image.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
