PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve an estimation accuracy in a method for estimating the stand trunk volume of trees standing in a forest and to provide devices suitable for practicing the method. ;SOLUTION: A standard measure ratio is optionally selected using the tree height of forest trees estimated to be the maximum tree height near the measurement limit for determining the average tree height based on the standard measure method as the reference of the collimation and the resultant standard measure ratio is used to count the corresponding forest trees by the measurement based on the standard measured method. The distance to the farthest forest tree located at the farthest position from the position of measurement among the counted forest trees is used as the reference of the measurement range to count the total number of the forest trees within the measurement range to determine the average tree height Hm of the forest trees within the measurement range. The breast height cross-sectional area constant is selected so that the farthest forest tree is within the count limit according to the Bitterlich method. The corresponding forest trees are counted within the measurement range by the measurement based on the Bitterlich method using the breast height cross-sectional area constant to determine the sum total G of the breast height cross-sectional area per ha. The stand form factor is F and the trunk volume V of trees standing in the forest per ha within the measurement range is determined from V=G.Hm.F.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
