PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the viscosity higher than that of a fiber phase by forming a spindle shaped polymeric aluminosilicate having specific length, max. width and ratio (length)/(the max. width). ;SOLUTION: The spindle shaped polymeric aluminosilicate having 10-100 μm length L, 2-20 μm max. width T and the ratio L/T of 2-10 and expressed by the formula; AlxSiyOz (x/y=1-3, z represents 1-10) is provided. The aluminosilicate is formed by adjusting an alkali aq. solution of a hydrolyzable Al compound such as AlCl3 and a hydrolyzable Si compound such as Si(OCH3)4 to pH 4-6.5 while keeping the Al concentration to 5×10-4-10-2M and the molar ratio Al/Si to 1-3, allowing the resultant mixture to react in the presence of a silanol group and holding for a prescribed time at 100°C. The solution is concentrated until the concentration of Al+Si reaches about 1.5 g/L, forming into two phases by decantation and the aluminosilicate containing ≥90 wt.% spindle shaped one is obtained from the upper phase.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1999,JPO
